Disabling Unnecessary Services
To disable IIS and other unnecessary services in Windows 2000:
- Click the Start button in the lower left corner of the desktop.
- Click Settings, then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools.
- Double-click Services.
- Scroll down and double-click Internet Connection Sharing Properties.
- Change Startup Type to Disabled.
- Click Apply, then click OK.
- Also disable the following services (if they are present):
- FTP Publishing Service
- IIS Admin Service
- Indexing Service
- Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)
